SAFE DESIGN WORKSHOP GUIDE – SD04

The Safe Design Workshop Guide is designed to help you navigate your Safety in Design Workshop/s. The objective of the Safety in Design Workshop is to identify potential hazards and opportunities to design out these hazards, or minimise risks during the lifecycle of the structure. The process has been adapted from the CHAIR process.

The Safe Design Workshop Guide (SD04) is designed to help you navigate your Safety in Design Workshop. The objective of the Safety in Design Workshop is to identify potential hazards and opportunities to design out these hazards, or minimise risks during the lifecycle of the structure.

The Workshop Guide provides step by step detail to preparing for, and running Safe Design Workshops throughout the initial design scoping and development phases and subsequent phases of the design process.

The Safe Design Workshop Guide follows a risk assessment process, known as the CHAIR process, with key stakeholders to identify potential hazards and brainstorm potential solutions/actions.

CHAIR is an acronym for Construction Hazard Assessment and Implication Review and is a tool that was originally developed by SafeWork NSW (formerly WorkCover NSW) to help identify and eliminate, or minimise, inherent risks in a structured and systematic way. The CHAIR processworks through the key elements of the structure (e.g. structural elements, floor layout, access, cladding, services etc.), or in the case of plant, the process workflow.
